Company Porto do Açu - Industrial Port
Founded in 2014, Porto do Açu is Latin America’s largest private, deep-water industrial port complex. Located in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Açu is a young port focused on sustainable growth. The port’s future industrialization includes expanding oil and gas mining activities, advancing renewable energy projects, and accelerating low-carbon industrialization.
Porto do Açu faced several technical and commercial challenges that forced them to invest in new technologies. The existing video wall system with static monitors was insufficient for their dynamic needs. They needed a solution that allowed real-time monitoring of camera systems and the ability to quickly change the information displayed in response to alarms. The previous configuration was not able to change information as quickly as needed, resulting in downtime and inefficiencies.
New technology must present multiple camera feeds and web dashboards, show important information, such as alarm messages, in a banner on the video, and include operator-friendly software to facilitate video control and adjustments.
Porto do Açu replaced its static audio/video system with a dynamic solution, providing a responsive configuration. Black Box installed an 8 x 2 video wall configuration using the Radian Video Wall Controller, which controls and displays multiple systems and cameras simultaneously. Sources include web feeds, customer-agent feeds, and physical inputs.
The configured system includes the 8 x 2 video wall and smaller cables, cards, and accessories supplied by Black Box. The system is installed in the control room at the port, supporting operations with 6-12 viewers and 3 operators. The new integrated workflow allows operators to quickly action, zoom in, and collaboratively discuss issues to find better solutions, with a quick return to normal configuration after resolution.
Radian Video Controller met Açu Port’s initial requirements and offered additional benefits, including faster switching time between layouts without delays, improved real-time monitoring and decisionmaking capabilities, as well as positive feedback on the reliability and functionality of the system.
Black Box’s support throughout the project was highly commended. The Black Box team’s thorough planning, design, implementation, and checklist preparation helped avoid many potential problems. Porto do Açu is considering future expansion, which may include adding more videos and video inputs as its operations grow.
